Amira Akpaloo
Assistant Director
Amira Akpaloo is a Licensed Social Worker with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology and her master’s in social work.
Amira has a vast experience from working with diverse populations ranging from children and adult women with physical and mental disabilities, older adults, and homeless individuals. She was also once a volunteer as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children. Amira is currently a Licensed Case Manager for the Elderly and Individuals with Disabilities Waiver Program in Washington, DC.
Born and bred in Ghana, Amira is familiar with individuals, families, and communities that have less than their neighbors and empathizes with them. She loves helping people in any way she can and is always ready to listen.
Amira enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and beaching in the summer. She also likes going on road trips to visit family and see different States.
Amira believes self-care is essential to everyone, especially when you work in a field that causes burn-out. Her self-care routine varies from occasional video games to working-out.
